Just a quick update from the Wilson front.
We are enjoying the christmas season here in BC, with our family of 4, still eagerly and sometimes painfully awaiting the arrival of the other member(or members) of our family. The biggest thing we have learned this year is that God knows all and we don't. Thanks for keeping us in your prayers. We are working both with a private adoption agency and with the ministry of children and families to grow our family.

Thanks all for praying. We had a great meeting with our social worker. We really like her and feel like we have connected with her well. The kids were questioned as to what they thought of the adoption and their answers were quite cute.

A time to Pray

Just got linked to a great blog aplacecalledsimplicity.blogspot.com , who has created a crazy love prayer challenge. Please join in prayer and fasting this wednesday, Sept 8, for adoptions all over the world.

Here is our story short and sweet. We started our adoption process 2 and half years ago. We had hoped to adopt 2 children from Ukraine. After many tries of getting our paperwork over there, only to have it expire etc..., along with the many other roadblocks, we had to come to a decision 2 years in, to change our adoption route. This was a heart wrenching process. We have decided to adopt locally now in BC, Canada. This also comes with it's own challenges. We have had to do numerous home studies, have had many social workers, countless courier bills and many discouraging moments. Strangely, we feel stronger about adoption now than we did at the time we started. We are now 9 months into the domestic adoption process...and labour pains will hopefully start very soon!! We would ask for prayer for our social worker (who just again got transferred) to be replaced soon and that the new one would look upon us favorably for a placement of 2 children.

This will be a somewhat short post. We are now 3 months post fundraiser and not too much further ahead with our papers. We had almost completed our homestudy when our social worker, who we love, was transferred and can no longer keep our case load. This puts us on permanent hold until the position is filled and that new worker takes on our load, completes our study and then we carry on. It could be a very long wait. Prayers are appreciated...for patience and trust in God.

Birthday's and other momentus occasions

Well, it has been an interesting week to say the least...
From celebrating my nephew's birthday, to formally saying "goodbye" to the ukraine adoption route, to my son ending up in emergency and my daughter almost knocking out her front tooth the day before her third bday.

WOW,
but since we are focusing on the adoption in this blog, I will fill you in on Feb 25th..the day our papers would have been submitted to the Ukrainian government for review and then acceptance/referral of a child. The day was met with mixed emotion, on the one hand, relieved that we didn't have to endure more paperwork,( which I found out later that day, could easily have been rejected once again, since the requirements changed at the end of January)....to second guessing our decision. The main thought that remained with me however at the end of that long day, was that I have two beautiful children who have been given to me as gifts...that I have the NOW to invest in their lives and that I must live for the moment and not for some imagined future that was mistakenly seem "greener"
Overall, a sobering day (in a good way)

New Perspective

Though I have heard this so often "God is the perfect gift-giver", I was reminded of this Truth by a friend who has adopted 2 children, each with their unique story..at exactly the right time.
God knows why we started our journey two years ago with Ukraine and had to come to a decision a few months ago to change tracks. Now we are excited about the prospect of welcoming a child from BC in to our home. I have had many days of peace knowing that God's wisdom is SO beyond my human understanding and that He has given me 2 precious gifts (and their Papa!!) right here...for today, to love.

NEWSFLASH:
We will be having a fundraiser coffeehouse where my band "Gardom's Guest" as well as "the Cats and the fiddle will be performing. There will be a number of pieces of art, created by local artist for sale also, by silent auction. We are so looking forward to a fun night of music, art, food and fun.

Mark MAY 2ND in your calendars and tell your neighbours!!

A new Year

Well, just incase you think we've fallen off the planet...nope, not quite. An update on our adoption status. We have discussed with our British Columbia agency regarding our international adoption and after doing the requirements necessary , have officially switched to "domestic"..meaning that now we "actively" wait for a birthmother to choose our family. What a great day that will be.

Well, for those who have been following our story, we have been pursuing our Ukraine adoption for almost 2 years. We found out several weeks ago that the two kids we had met and grown so fond of in our hearts, were not available for adoption. This, along with some other pretty big factors that we have been wrestling with over the months, has caused us to officially cut our ties with Ukraine. We still are very passionate about adoption and will pursue a canadian adoption through the government (usually some higher needs kids). It has been one of the hardest decisions to make.

On a more happy note, we have gone ahead with our fundraiser (since this whole adventure is quite expensive) and have recorded and produced a CHRISTMAS CD. "Peas on Earth" (we always referred to our kids as our "sweet peas")
Fun songs for the family. $10. SO if you are out there and would like one...let us know. It costs $2 to ship up to 3 cds to you. WE'd be happy to do so.

Asking for Prayer

As we start our 4th round of paperwork, in hopes of a submission date in the spring, I am asking you to Pray for us..that we will be faithful to God, that we will love each other in this process.(.that I find quite stressful) It has been quite a ride over these past 2 years..with I'm sure more adventures to come. I believe it to be a miracle that we are still on the road to adoption. I praise God for that. We are trusting God to provide for us, in every way as we seek him out in these days.

AFter 18 months and 3 sets of dossiers, we are now registered, the first of 3 steps in our Ukrainian ADoption. We are thankful and now must work on our papers again (hopefully for the last time) until our submission day in February 2010. That's the latest.

...not exactly the way you think. We have about 6 weeks left until our papers once again expire. They have not yet made it back to the embassy so it will be interesting to see what happens. We have decided that after 18 months of doing the same paper work only for them to expire or requirements to change from the Ukrainian side, that after this deadline, we will reconsider the whole Ukraine route. This is hard to write as we have invested alot...especially emotionally into this. It seems to be like a cat chasing it's tail as it would appear next to impossible for us to get our papers processed in time for them to make it alive to Ukraine. Praying for God's Will to be done and for us to have a peace and Hope in that.

Well, our dossier was not approved in Ukraine, not because the papers were incorrect, but because it came in one instead of three bundles. So, we are back at square one after one and a half years. Needless to say, we are tired, but trusting that God is indeed showing us his will. We will see what is to come in the next few months. I pray that God has adoption in mind for us. To him and not me, be the glory.

we are still waiting for news on submitting our paperwork. It is a long process and it is hard to stay joyful and hopeful. We might have to re-do our papers for once again, some obscure reason, or we might be able to submit soon. Hoping to hear more soon.

A couple of weeks have come and gone and we have given much business to the local courier in our town. We are happy to say that our dossier (without the latest requirements) is now in Ukraine and undergoing translation. That is indeed wonderful. I was starting to wonder if we would ever get it out of the country. Now to send of the last of the documents TODAY and pray they join up the rest of the file soon so as to be able to ask to submit possibly even in February!

Just sitting at my computer at the quiet part of the day, thinking about what will become of this process we are in now. We have just couriered our second copies of the new requirements (2 days after we couriered off our dossier again)...and are praying that all things will work out.

I am so grateful for what I am learning through this:

-letting go of what I think is in my control
-nothing is predictable
-cherishing my family
-praying for these new members to be

In record breaking time, we have had our new forms notarized etc. It is on the way to our agency and then off to get authenticated again.

I know that God will glorify himself in this, whichever way he answers.

another setback

We ended off 2008 but still hopeful for the next year. On Jan 1 , we heard that due to the new forms and us just having finished our 2nd time around dossier, only to totally restart our third... there is only a very slim, slim chance that we will be able to submit our dossier in order for it to be accepted for 2009. Needless to say, I have cried, been frustrated and have tried to understand this whole process. Please pray with us for a "miracle". Our dossier will be going to the notary and off to Ottawa again in the next couple of days and then our part is done.
Our hope is built on NOTHING LESS than Jesus blood and righteousness...what a comfort!

While this post marks the beginning of our Ukraine adoption blog, we are nearing the one year anniversary of beginning our adoption "journey". My wife, Monika, will no doubt fill in the details over the coming weeks and months, but for now I can tell you that we are redoing our paperwork for the third time and hoping to resubmit our dossier before the initial 2009 intake is exhausted.

More two come... soon, we hope.
